A traditional pole tent (or suspension tent) has center poles and require more staking and need to be staked on all four sides. Therefore, pole tents need to be setup on grass.

A frame tent has no center pole because it has a frame that supports itself. Frame tents need less staking and can be setup on asphalt as long as we can stake two sides of the tent.
